child therapy
Helping Kids Feel Seen, Heard and Supported
I create a safe, playful space where children can express themselves, build skills, and feel understood. Therapy with kids involves connection, creativity, and collaboration—with both the child and the important adults in their world.
I generally work with children who are 5 years old and up. I have games, toys, and crafts in my office and online to help children get comfortable with and express themselves in therapy. Through talking and playing, I strive to develop a strong relationship with child clients and work on acknowledging and accepting feelings, identifying goals, and developing strategies in order to move toward these goals. Every child and family is different, but with most children under 13yo, I work closely and sometimes exclusively with one or multiple parents. I find that if children are going to make meaningful change and develop new responses or skills, they need lots of coaching, caring, modeling, and scaffolding from their parents. It can also be helpful to work with other adults in the child’s environment, ie, teachers, school counselors, or pediatricians.
teen therapy
Supporting Teens with Care, Creativity, and Connection
I strive to build trusting relationships with teens—creating space for them to process challenges, express emotions, and learn new skills. I also stay connected with caregivers to offer guidance and help families navigate this important developmental stage.
Teens often want and need more independence from their parent(s) or caregiver(s). It is important that I have a private relationship with teens in therapy so that they have a safe space to share their feelings. Since parents play a very important role in a teen’s life, I do my best to provide check-ins with parents about goals and progress as well as ways to support their teen, work on parenting skills, and enhance their relationship. With teens, I utilize multiple types of media, ie, computer graphics, audio recordings, videos, and reading as well as experiential exercises in and outside of therapy to provide psychoeducation, and to help them open up, gain understanding, and work on skills.
adult therapy
For When You Feel Stuck—and Ready for Change
Many adults come to therapy because they feel stuck and want to get "un-stuck" or grow and improve their lives. I work with clients to explore what's working, what's not, and how to move forward with more clarity, intention, and confidence.
Similar to my work with kids and teens, I work collaboratively with adults on understanding their struggles and strengths, identifying patterns over time and how they developed, opening up to their feelings, clarifying their values and what matters, and developing new skills and responses to act on their values and enhance their lives. We also check-in periodically about goals or monitor progress to inform next steps and the treatment plan. To facilitate therapy, I often recommend books for adults to read or listen to, as well as other resources.
